Constructing Random Probability Distributions
Abstrac: This article surveys several classes of iterative methods for constructing random probability distributions (or random convex functions, or random home omorphisms), and includes illustrative applications in statistics, optimal-control theory, and game theory. Computer simulations of these methods are fast and easy to implement.

Suppose a city’s traffic engineering department monitors a certain intersection during a one-hour period in the middle of the day. Many characteristics might be of interest to the observers, including the number of vehicles that enter the intersection, the largest number of vehicles in the left turn lane during a signal cycle, the speed of the fastest vehicle going through the intersection, the...

متن کاملInfinitely divisible random probability distributions with an application to a random motion in a random environment
The infinite divisibility of probability distributions on the space P(R) of probability distributions on R is defined and related fundamental results such as the Lévy-Khintchin formula, representation of Itô type of infinitely divisible RPD, stable RPD and Lévy processes on P(R) are obtained. As an application we investigate limiting behaviors of a simple model of a particle motion in a random ...
متن کاملOrdered Random Variables from Discontinuous Distributions
In the absolutely continuous case, order statistics, record values and several other models of ordered random variables can be viewed as special cases of generalized order statistics, which enables a unified treatment of their theory. This paper deals with discontinuous generalized order statistics, continuing on the recent work of Tran (2006). Specifically, we show that in general neither re...
